Ayun is an administrative unit known as a Union Council and Town in Lower Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is situated 12 kilometers south of the city of Chitral. Ayun is located at the confluence of the Chitral River and the Bumburet River, surrounded by mountains. The Bumburet River runs through the village, providing water for irrigation, drinking, and electricity generation in the Ayun valley.
The valley shares its borders with Bumburet and Birir to the west, Broze to the east, Chitral to the north, and Gahirat to the south. Ayun has an average elevation of 4,500 feet (1,400 meters). The climate in Ayun is characterized by an average annual temperature of 26°C and approximately 1209 mm (47.6 inches) of precipitation each year. Khowar is the main language spoken in Ayun, with Bashgali also spoken by a small population.
Ayun Valley serves as a gateway to the famed Kalash Valleys – Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir. Ensconced amidst the towering peaks of the Hindu Kush mountains, the valley offers breathtaking natural beauty and cultural richness.
