Shahdad Kot

 

Shahdadkot is the most populated and largest Tehsil of Qambar Shahdadkot District of Sindh, Pakistan. It was named after the town founder Shahdad Khan Khuhawar. It is located around 51 kilometres northwest of Larkana and 34 kilometers north of Qambar. The town is in close proximity to three districts of Balochistan namely Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi and Jaffarabad in the west and north of the district. It is linked on the M8 motorway route between Gwadar and Ratodero.

Town is also a political stronghold of Pakistan People’s Party since 1970.The town was also the constituency of the former prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto. PPP MPA Nadir Khan Magsi has been elected for more than 3 decades now.

Shahdadkot is situated at a distance of 456 km from Karachi in Sindh Province and can be accessed through Larkana-Qambar-Shahdadkot Highway N-455 from the Larkana district. It has a mixture of multiple types of lands such as plains, agricultural land, the mountain of Kirthar Range, and a number of lakes.

Qambar Shahdadkot is bounded by Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, and Jhal Magsi districts. The Larkana-Qambar-Shahdadkot Highway N-455 is one of the main road in the district that runs across the center of the district. The Indus Highway N-55 also connects the south side of the district, where the Ratodero-Gwadar Motorway M-8 is another alternate to access the northern part of the district and also a way to access the Gwadar Port. It is also connected with railway track on the Larkana-Shahdadkot Link track.

Agriculture is the main profession of the people of the district. On the fertile plains of the Indus River, number of cash crops are cultivated such as wheat, cotton, rice, gram, and sugarcane. The district lands is mostly irrigated through the canals from the Sukkur Barrage as well as tube-wells.

Kirthar Mountain Range is a natural boundary between Sindh and Balochistan provinces. It starts from the Mula River in Sulaiman Mountain Range and stretches toward the Cape Monze on the Arabian Sea. Zardak Peak at an elevation of 9,498 feet is the highest peak in this mountain range. It consists of a series of parallel rock hill ridges with alluvial plains located between ridges with dry riverbeds. The Khasa Hills and Mulri Hill near the Arabia Sea are the sub-ranges of the Kirthar Mountains. The Gaj River and the Hub River are the main rivers flow these mountain ranges.
